More about the TSAS case

After the pandemic the volumes started coming back in aviation in general and for TSAS as well. Yet for TSAS, the margins were under significant pressure where some customers might even have a negative contribution margin.

With a highly fragmented toolset and unclear procedures, TSAS did not have a single source of truth in their operational database resulting in an inefficient and ineffective operation, a significant chunk of missed revenue on delivered services and no means of reliable reporting. TSAS started building a low-code OADB yet were struggling to mature this.

Smart Solutions initially helped TSAS with a quick scan during peak season to map and benchmark the entire Montreal and HQ operation to identify which bottlenecks were preventing them from moving further. In a subsequent programme of one winter-season Smart Solutions supported with hard and soft deliverables. The self-developped software suite became a co-development where the backend low-code was replaced by best practise API’s and a solid database-structure. For the front-end development SS acted as the interim Product Owner to steer and lead the TSAS development team in the what and how to develop.
The excel based planning tooling was completely brushed up and enriched with basic formula’s, to have more insight in the whereabouts of staff, enabling multi-skilled working.
In a total trajectory of 9 months, TSAS was able to save 12% of staff costs, without reducing the shift duration. With longer shifts, staff were happier resulting in a more motivated workforce. The back-end AODB was automatically filled with an API and enriched with meta-data entered on tablets on the workshop. Using PowerBI, the management now has clear insights in the day2day performance, and longitudinal trends, becoming in control of their resource chain, using a hybrid built ERP, maintaining completely vendor independent.
